Woodward Man to Serve 87 Months in Federal Prison for Distribution of Methamphetamine

OKLAHOMA CITY—JOSE MANUEL CHAVEZ-PEREZ (a/k/a “El Papo” and “Jose Manuel Chavez”), 47, from Woodward, Oklahoma, was sentenced to serve 87 months in federal prison for distribution of five grams or more of actual methamphetamine. From November 2010 to January 2011, federal law enforcement agents conducted multiple controlled buys of methamphetamine from Chavez-Perez using a confidential informant. A search warrant was executed on his house in May 2011 and law enforcement caught him trying to flush methamphetamine down the toilet. He was indicted on May 17, 2011 and pled guilty on July 6, 2011. United States District Judge Joe Heaton sentenced Chavez-Perez to serve 87 months in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release.

This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Office of Homeland Security Investigations. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andre’ B. Caldwell and David P. Petermann.
