On Thursday, January 13, 2011, Tehachapi Police Department received a report that someone had been shot at a home in the 600 block of Brentwood Drive in Tehachapi, CA. Upon arrival authorities found the victim, Stephen Gregory Chirsty, who had been shot and was unresponsive. The victim was transported by ambulance to Tehachapi Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The primary suspect in this case, Logan Quiroga, had been actively evading authorities from the time of the homicide.
Tehachapi Police Department contacted the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force (PSWRFTF), Fresno Division. The case was given high priority and directed to task force officers from the California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR) in Bakersfield, CA. Task force officers and Tehachapi Police launched an investigation gathering several leads to the fugitive’s possible whereabouts. The Marshals Service also contacted America’s Most Wanted (AMW) and Quiroga was profiled on the AMW website as one of nations most wanted fugitives.
The task force received information that Quiroga may have fled to Mexico. U.S. Marshals in Fresno sent the information to U.S. Marshals in the Southern District of California, El Centro Office. Deputy Marshals from El Centro, CA and Yuma, AZ contacted State Police in Sonora Mexico requesting assistance in locating and apprehending Quiroga.
On December 9, 2011, Quiroga was located and detained by State Police in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico. He was processed by Mexican Immigration Officials and deported back to the United States where he is currently facing extradition to Kern County, California where he will face the outstanding murder charge.
