Slayton and a 28-year-old man were shot in an apartment in the 600 block of Fern St. in Akron . The Akron Police Department, through the course of their investigation, identified Travis as a suspect for the homicide, and charged him with aggravated murder and felonious assault.
In May of 2010, the Akron Police Department referred the case to the NOVFTF for assistance with locating and apprehending Travis. The NOVFTF over the course of their investigation has spent hundreds of man hours on the case.
In September 2010, the NOVFTF added Travis to their most wanted “Dangerous Dozen” list and was profiled in the Akron Beacon Journal. Deputy U.S. Marshal Jeff Irwin stated, “Since the beginning of the new year multiple new tips have come in on Travis from the Beacon Journal Story. The tips have allowed Task Force Officer’s to effectively step up their efforts in the pursuit of Travis”.
Task Force Officers have been able to close down on Travis over the course of the last few weeks. All of the NOVFTF efforts and hard work paid off Tuesday evening when Travis was tracked to an address on Rachel St., NW , in Canton , OH . When Task Force officers approached the apartment, Travis tried to flee by climbing out a window from a second story apartment. Travis was apprehended before he hit the ground by observant Task Force Officers eagerly waiting on the ground level. Travis was immediately transported to Akron Police Department for questioning and is currently being held in the Summit County Jail.
