U.S. Border Patrol Agents Seize Methamphetamine

Blythe, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from Yuma Sector seized approximately 21 pounds of methamphetamine near Blythe Friday night.

Agents assigned to Blythe Station, conducting roving patrol duties, witnessed erratic driving behavior by the driver of a pickup truck. Agents followed the vehicle on Interstate 10 where they observed erratic movement of the vehicle. The agents conducted a vehicle stop, fearing for public safety, just west of

The occupants, one male U.S. citizen, and one Mexican national had conflicting stories as to where they were coming from and their destination. Due to inconsistencies and the erratic behavior of the driver, permission to conduct a canine sniff of the vehicle was requested and granted. A canine team alerted to the vehicle and a search was conducted. Agents discovered 15 bundles of methamphetamine concealed in the bed of the truck behind the bed liner and behind the rear seats of the inside of the truck.

The methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $504,000, and the suspects, were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The vehicle was seized by the Border Patrol.
