Friday night Border Patrol agents using mobile surveillance technology detected a group of suspected illegal aliens on the Santa Rosa Mountains 12 miles east of the Lukeville Port of Entry. Agents searched the area and located 1,073 pounds of abandoned marijuana. In a second incident early Sunday, agents located a stolen 2005 Dodge Ram Truck abandoned near State Route 85 containing 1,041 pounds of marijuana. The vehicle and marijuana seized in both incidents were transported to the Ajo Station for processing.
“By equipping our personnel with advanced surveillance technology, our situational awareness in remote border areas is greatly enhanced,” stated Patrol Agent in Charge Jack Jeffreys. “The Tucson Sector is committed to augmenting our enforcement efforts by providing the appropriate technology to continue supporting the mission of the Border Patrol.”
