SOUTH BEND – United States Attorney for the Northern
District of Indiana, David Capp, announced that Isaiah M. Samelton, 20, of
South Bend, Indiana, was sentenced today, for being a felon in possession of a
firearm.
Samelton was sentenced to 42 months imprisonment and 3 years
of supervised release.
According to documents in the case, on May 1, 2014,
Samelton, a convicted felon, was caught possessing a semi-automatic pistol that
was loaded and had a round in the chamber.
Samelton endangered the lives of police and citizen motorists when he
fled from police going more than 100 mph and when he tossed the loaded gun from
his car, which was recovered by police.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Bureau
of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Indiana State Police, and the
South Bend Police Department. This case
was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Donald J. Schmid.
