San Ysidro, CA — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the San Ysidro port of entry over the weekend seized 1,151 pounds of marijuana hidden inside furniture.
On Saturday, August 20 at about 11 a.m., CBP officers encountered the driver, a 24-year U.S. citizen, as he waited in line for inspection driving a Ford-F350 pulling a trailer full of furniture and cabinets. A CBP officer screening vehicles targeted the driver and conveyance for a more in-depth examination.
A detector dog was utilized to screen the conveyance and it alerted to the trailer. Officers subsequently discovered 126 packages of marijuana hidden in a sofa, china cabinet, and bedroom furniture valued at almost $700,000.
The driver was transported to the Metropolitan Correctional Center to await arraignment for the foiled smuggling attempt. CBP seized the marijuana, truck, trailer, and furniture.
