Marfa, Texas – Two Mexican citizens must have taken a wrong turn somewhere Thursday because they ended up in the custody of the Drug Enforcement Administration after they drove their marijuana-laden pickup into a Border Patrol Checkpoint. The two were apprehended at Alpine Station’s Highway 385 Checkpoint, south of Marathon, Texas.
At about 2:20 p.m. on April 27, the two men driving a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup pulled into the checkpoint and were subjected to an immigration inspection. In the meantime, a Border Patrol K-9 team was alerted to the possibility of drugs.
The two men were transferred to secondary where they underwent a more thorough inspection. Agents found 38 metal boxes, which contained a total of 1,592 pounds of marijuana.
Along with the men, DEA took possession of the marijuana and the vehicle.
