Darnell C. Crutcher, a/k/a Darnell V. Crutcher, 28, of East St. Louis, was arraigned in federal district court in East St. Louis, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today. Crutcher was charged by indictment on May 18, 2011, with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The indictment also contains a forfeiture provision for the firearm and ammunition alleged to have been possessed by Crutcher.
An indictment is a formal charge against a defendant; it does not represent a finding of guilt.
Trial is set for July 5, 2011. Crutcher is being held without bond pending trial.
The maximum penalties that can be imposed, if Crutcher is convicted, are up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both, three years' supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.
The case was investigated by members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen B. Clark.
