Roswell, NM - On May 23, 2011 Richard Thyberg, one of the Marshals Service New Mexico’s Most Wanted Gang Offenders was arrested. Thyberg was arrested by the United States Marshals Service Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT) Task Force and the Roswell Police Department in Roswell after Task Force Officers observed Thyberg leaving a residence they had been watching. During Thyberg’s arrest he was found in Possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.
Thyberg was living at the Dismas Charities Residential Reentry Center in Las Cruces as part of his sentence with the Bureau of Prisons for Felon in Possession of a Firearm charges. Thyberg escaped from Dismas after he walked away on 3/18/2011. Thyberg will be charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm for the loaded handgun and escape from custody for walking away from Dismas. Thyberg’s extensive criminal history, gang affiliation and continued propensity for violence is why he was placed on the Marshals Services New Mexico’s Most Wanted List. United States Marshal for the District of New Mexico commented “The New Mexico Most Wanted Program continues to be successful because of the partnership and cooperation of local, county and state law enforcement agencies, our combined efforts have resulted in the arrest of 17 dangerous fugitives.”
