Alleged James Island Shooter Arrested by Charleston County Sheriff's and U.S. Marshals in Virginia

Danville, VA - Domoneik Antwan Washington, 26, was arrested today by a coalition of law enforcement officials in Charleston and Virginia alike. Washington is charged by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. Washington is charged with having shot several individuals, who were alleged to have been in a rival gang, at a Folly Road gas station in March, where one victim perished as a result of the shooting.

Operation Intercept, the U.S. Marshal led fugitive task force, worked hand in hand with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, North Charleston Police, and Charleston Police in a relentless effort to locate Washington.  Information had been developed that Washington was staying in the Danville area of Virginia with extended family.  Charleston officials then worked jointly with members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force-Roanoke Office, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and the Danville City Police to narrow down where Washington was hiding.  After conducting surveillance of the area, Investigators noticed Washington walking down the street with another individual going to a local convenience store.  Washington was placed into custody without incident and transported to the Danville City Jail where he will await extradition back to Charleston.

Kelvin Washington, the U.S. Marshal for South Carolina, stated: “The level of violence in this case will not be tolerated in our cities and in our communities. Law enforcement, as shown in this case, never give up and never rest until fugitives are caught and brought to justice. The law always catches up with you.  I applaud the investigators, from all agencies: your work makes this world safer to live in and I thank you for that.”

The Western District of Virginia Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF) is comprised of five offices and covers the Western portion of Virginia. The Roanoke Office of CARFTF is a team of the following Federal, State and Local agencies: Virginia State Police, Virginia Department of Corrections, Roanoke City Police Department, Roanoke County Police Department, Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service.
