CBP Officers at Calexico Downtown Port stop Meth Load from Entering U.S.

Calexico, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the Calexico downtown port of entry arrested a United States citizen after they discovered 91 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in the vehicle she was driving.

The incident occurred early this morning at about 1:00 a.m. when a CBP officer conducting inspections of vehicles and travelers entering the U.S. referred the driver, a 25-year-old female, for further examination after the officer noticed her suspicious behavior.

At the secondary inspection area, an intensive examination that included a canine screening of the grey Hyundai Accent led officers to the discovery of 34 wrapped packages of methamphetamine, concealed inside the quarter panels and seats. The methamphetamine has a street value of approximately $1,001,000.

The driver, a resident of Calexico, Calif,, was turned over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for further processing.

CBP seized both the vehicle and narcotic.
