Wauconda Bank Bomb Threat – Update

February 12, 2010 - The FBI and Wauconda Police Department are continuing their investigation of the attempted robbery on Tuesday of the Wauconda Community Bank, located at 495 West Liberty in the far north suburb.

According to witnesses, an individual described as a white male, 50 years of age, 6’ 0” tall, entered the bank and placed a red shopping bag on the counter. The bag contained flowers and a suspected explosive device. He then turned and walked away, leaving the shopping bag and its contents behind. A note attached to the bag claimed that a bomb was inside and instructed bank employees to place an unspecified amount of cash at a nearby location or the bomb would be detonated.

The robbery attempt was unsuccessful as no money was removed from the bank. The bank and surrounding area were evacuated. No explosives were found inside the package and no injuries were reported.

Bank surveillance photos of the robber are below. The case is also featured on the Bandit Tracker website, www.bandittrackerchicago.com.
