February 17, 2010 - BOSTON, MA—A Springfield man was convicted today in federal court of Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute and Distribution of 5 grams or more of Crack Cocaine, and Possession with Intent to Distribute and Distribution of 5 grams or more of Crack Cocaine. United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Warren T. Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Field Division, announced today that ANTHONY GRAHAM, age 27, of Springfield, pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to one count of Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute and Distribution of Cocaine Base, and one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute and Distribution of Cocaine Base.
At today’s plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven that GRAHAM was involved in a drug conspiracy in May 2009 to distribute crack cocaine, and that he sold 5 grams or more of crack cocaine on May 11, 2009 with his co-conspirator in the Springfield area.
Judge Ponsor scheduled sentencing for May 11, 2010. GRAHAM faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 5 years, and up to 40 years imprisonment, to be followed by at least four years of supervised release and a $2,000,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the FBI's Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle L. Dineen Jerrett of Ortiz’s Springfield Branch Office.
