German National Indicted for Being an Alien in Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition

February 17, 2010 - OKLAHOMA CITY—A federal grand jury has charged MAZIAR GOLCHEHR, 27, of Cologne, Germany, with being an alien in unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, announced Sanford C. Coats, United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma. In addition, Golchehr was charged with making false statements to law enforcement agents about his status as a German police officer.

According to the Indictment, Golchehr was in Oklahoma City after being admitted to the United States under a non-immigrant visa waiver. It is alleged that on December 29, 2009, Golchehr was unlawfully in possession of a Glock 17, 9 mm semi-automatic pistol and on January 27, 2010, he was in unlawful possession of fifty (50) rounds of Brass Blazer 9 mm Luger ammunition. The Indictment also alleges that Golchehr falsely stated to an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force Officer that he was a German police officer assigned to Grenzschutzgruppe 9 (GSG-9), an elite police force of the German government, when in fact he was not employed as a German police officer and was not a member of GSG-9.

If convicted, Golchehr faces up to 10 years in federal prison, a fine up to $250,000, and forfeiture of the firearm and ammunition. The public is reminded that the indictment is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Reference is made to the indictment for further information.

These charges are the result of an investigation conducted by agents of the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Oklahoma City Police Department. The case is prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andre’ Caldwell and Chris Stephens.
