February 19, 2010 - Nora R. Dannehy, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that LAWRENCE MARK SULLIVAN, 31, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven to 63 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for robbing banks in Connecticut and Maine. Judge Arterton also ordered SULLIVAN to pay a fine of $500, and restitution of approximately $7600 to the victim banks. On December 1, 2009, SULLIVAN pleaded guilty to three counts of bank robbery.
According to court documents and statements made in court, SULLIVAN used threatening notes to rob two banks in Connecticut and one bank in Maine.
On December 8, 2008, SULLIVAN robbed approximately $3,131 from the Dime Bank in New London, Connecticut, after presenting a note to a bank teller that read: “Gimmey [sic] the money. No dye packs or GPS and you won’t get hurt. 5 seconds.”
On April 3, 2009, SULLIVAN robbed approximately $3,300 from the Webster Bank located at 1039 Silas Deane Highway in Wethersfield, Connecticut, after presenting a note to a bank teller that read: “Don’t be stupid!! Give me the money! No Diepacks or GPS! Do not push any buttons. $100, $50, $20, $10 NOW!!!! You won’t get hurt if you follow instructions!”
On April 20, 2009, SULLIVAN robbed approximately $1,170 from the TD Banknorth, N.A., in Bangor, Maine, after presenting a note to a bank teller that read: “Don’t be
stupid do not press button. No die packs or GPS and You Won’t get Hurt. $100, $50, $20, $10 NOW!!!”
SULLIVAN was charged in the District of Maine with one count of bank robbery stemming from the April 20, 2009, robbery in Bangor. SULLIVAN agreed to have that case transferred to the District of Connecticut.
SULLIVAN has been detained since his arrest at a Wethersfield motel on April 23, 2009.
This matter was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New London Police Department, the Wethersfield Police Department and the Bangor Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant United States Attorney Michael J. Gustafson.
