Two Suspects Arrested for 2002 Murder

February 11, 2010 - Columbus, OH – Cathy J. Jones, United States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, announced today that Craig Jewett and Kelly Miller have been arrested. Jewett and Miller were wanted by the City of Columbus Division of Police for aggravated murder. The murder charges stem from an April 20, 2002 fire at 255 South Gift Street in Columbus, Ohio that resulted in the death of John Miller.

On the morning of February 10, 2010, the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST) arrested Jewett and Miller simultaneously at two separate residences. Jewett was apprehended at a residence on South Burgess Street in Columbus while Miller was arrested at an apartment on East Broad Street in Whitehall. During the arrest of Jewett, officers seized two handguns and a shotgun from the residence.

Marshal Jones stated, “the arrests of Jewett and Miller demonstrate the determination and commitment of the case detectives and the efficiency of the SOFAST officers. In this case, the two suspects were safely apprehended within hours of the arrest warrants being issued.”

SOFAST is a multi-agency fugitive apprehension team comprised of the following law enforcement agencies in the Columbus area: U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, City of Columbus Division of Police, Worthington Police Department, Grove City Police Department, Reynoldsburg Police Department, Lancaster Police Department, City of Columbus Division of Fire, State of Ohio Adult Parole Authority, State of Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Department of Agriculture and the South Bloomfield Police Department.
