February 1, 2010 - Jeffrey H. Sloman, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and John V. Gillies, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Miami Field Office, announced the filing of federal criminal charges against Jeffrey St. Louis, 22, and Irving J. Roberts, 20. The defendants have been charged with committing two armed robberies, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1951(a). A pretrial detention hearing has been scheduled for February 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. before Magistrate Judge Barry S. Seltzer in Fort Lauderdale.
According to criminal complaints filed against the two defendants, St. Louis, Roberts, and other individuals committed armed robberies of gas stations in Davie on December 14, 2009 and Plantation on December 24, 2009. During each of the robberies, the gas station clerks were pistol whipped and the defendants stole cash and other property.
A criminal complaint is only an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Mr. Sloman commended the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Secret Service, Miami-Dade Police Department, Broward Sheriff’s Office, Miami Police Department Davie Police Department, and Plantation Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Strider Dickson.
