February 1, 2010 - Lance Thomas, 46, of Wieppe, Idaho, was sentenced on Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge to 60 months in federal prison for his involvement in a conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. During the past six weeks, seven other people from the Kamiah-Kooskia area have also been sentenced to prison terms ranging from 12 to 70 months. The names and ages of the other individuals are Marvin Mendenhall, 52, Viola Hedden, 48, Robin Vessey, 52, Deborah Rairdon, 48, Randy Sams, 49, Jill Allgier, 52, and Owen Jack, 34.
The investigation was first initiated by the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office in 2008. As the case progressed, the Idaho State Police and the FBI assisted in the investigation. The investigation revealed that these eight individuals had been purchasing ingredients used to manufacture methamphetamine. Authorities later discovered the meth lab during a search of Marvin Mendenhall’s residence in Kamiah, Idaho.
Though these individuals lived in and around the Nez Perce Indian Reservation, none of the suspects arrested were tribal members.
