Hebron Man Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Pornography

More Than 4,700 Images of Child Porn Found on Computer

February 12, 2010 - COLUMBUS—Brent Camp, 35, of Hebron pleaded guilty in United States District Court here today to one count of possession of child pornography after online investigators found him sharing images over the Internet of a three- to four-year old child in sexually explicit poses. Carter M. Stewart, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, Keith L. Bennett, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp announced the plea entered today before U.S. District Judge Algenon L. Marbley.

On July 21, 2009, a task force officer with the FBI Columbus Cybercrimes Task Force investigating known child pornography sites on the Internet observed a participant in a peer-to-peer file sharing program who identified himself as “Trixter” sharing numerous files with titles indicative of child pornography. The officer downloaded approximately 19 images of suspected child pornography from “Trixter”

According to a statement of facts read during Camp’s plea hearing, the agent got a search warrant and traced the computer address to Camp’s house. On October 8, 2009, members of the FBI and Licking County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant at Camp’s house, and seized various computer equipment and digital media.

On October 9, 2009, investigators completed a forensic exam on a desktop computer seized from a bedroom in the house and found several thousand images of suspected child pornography – including images of prepubescent minors engaged in sexual acts with adults and other prepubescent children. In total, there were approximately 4,700 images and several videos of suspected child pornography recovered from the computer’s hard drive.

Camp fled the area on October 8, 2009 and an arrest warrant was issued. He surrendered to Sheriff Thorp’s office on October 29th, 2009. After today’s plea, Judge Marbley remanded Camp to the custody of the U.S. Marshals while awaiting sentencing.

Possession of child pornography is punishable by up to ten years imprisonment. Federal law requires that he also be sentenced to at least five years and up to lifetime court supervision.

Stewart commended the investigation by members of the FBI Columbus Cybercrimes Task Force, the Licking County Sheriff’s Office, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Hunter who is prosecuting the case.
