Suspect Charged in Connection with Robbery of Fifth Third Bank in West Chicago

A 34-year old Tinley Park man wanted in connection with the recent robbery of a West Chicago bank was arrested in Villa Park yesterday evening. Acting on a tip received from the public, officers of the Villa Park and Lombard police departments located Daniel Henry Mack at a gas station in Villa Park and took him into custody.

Mack was charged in a criminal complaint filed August 21 in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of bank robbery, which is a felony offense. According to the complaint, Mack robbed the Fifth Third Bank branch located at 1800 North Neltnor Boulevard in West Chicago on August 14. Although not charged in Tuesday’s filing, the complaint alleges that an individual matching Mack’s description carried out two additional robberies. One was at the Harris Bank branch located at 191 East Lake Street in Bloomingdale on August 9, and the second was at the Citizens Financial Bank branch located at 7229 South Kingery Highway in Willowbrook on August 16. Witnesses from both of those incidents described the robber as matching Mack’s physical description. Mack is also believed to have committed a fourth robbery, striking the Fifth Third Bank branch at 2353 63rd Street in Woodridge, Illinois, late Tuesday afternoon.

Following his arrest, Mack was turned over to agents of the FBI, and he will appear later today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sidney I. Schenkier, at which time he will be formally charged.

Bloomingdale, West Chicago, Willowbrook, and Woodridge police departments provided assistance in the investigation of the robberies.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
