U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson
announced that a Flandreau, South Dakota man has been indicted by a federal
grand jury for assault.
Jared Sully, age 18, was indicted by a
federal grand jury on August 14, 2012, for assault with a dangerous weapon and
assault resulting in serious bodily injury. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate
Judge John E. Simko on August 16, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years’ imprisonment and/or a $250,000
fine. The charges are merely accusations, and Sully is presumed innocent until
and unless proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by
the Flandreau Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas J.
Wright is prosecuting the case. Sully was released on bond pending trial. A
trial date has not yet been set.
