Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge discovered cocaine valued at nearly $1.3 million concealed within a Dodge Ram.
On Friday, June 4, at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge, CBP officers came in contact with a white 2010 Dodge Ram driven by a 40-year-old, male Mexican citizen who resides in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. A CBP officer’s primary check resulted in the Dodge pickup and its driver being referred to secondary for further inspection.
A secondary examination resulted in the discovery of 16 packages concealed within the Dodge. CBP officers removed the 16 packages from the vehicle with a combined total weight of 17.95 kilograms, or 39.6 pounds, of cocaine.
The cocaine from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $1,267,200. CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle.
“This is another load of dangerous narcotics that will not make it into our communities. I congratulate our officers for an outstanding interception and their continued vigilance and dedication to our country’s protection,” said Michael Freeman, CBP port director for the Brownsville port of entry.
