Lukeville, Ariz. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Lukeville Port of Entry arrested four individuals on various charges over the last four days. They also seized approximately 984 pounds of marijuana.
On June 9, CBP officers noticed discrepancies while interviewing two women, who arrived in a Chevrolet Tahoe and applied for entry into the United States. The officers referred the women to the vehicle secondary lot for further inspection.
Officers utilized a narcotic detector dog and the x-ray which confirmed their suspicion of the drug smuggling attempt. The CBP officers discovered 255 packages of marijuana in the SUV’s floor.
The women were arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with the marijuana, which weighed approximately 881 pounds.
On June 6, CBP officers discovered more than 103 pounds of marijuana secreted in the bed of a Toyota Tundra pickup. A narcotic detector dog alerted officers to the truck bed, and the 27-year-old Phoenix resident was immediately arrested. A total of 26 packages of marijuana were removed from the truck. The suspect, vehicle, and marijuana were turned over to the Pima County Sheriff Department.
A significant arrest was also made of a man wanted by the Drug Enforcement Agency. On June 7, the 21-year-old applied for entry into the United States when CBP officers discovered he had an outstanding warrant on drug conspiracy charges originated by DEA. The man was arrested and turned over to the DEA for further disposition.
