June 14, 2010 - BALTIMORE, MD—U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz sentenced Kevin Johnson, age 30, of Maryland, today to 64 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for mailing a threatening communication to a federal judge.
The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Richard A. McFeely of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and U.S. Marshal Johnny Hughes.
According to Johnson’s guilty plea, on February 11, 2009, while he was an inmate at the Western Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland, Johnson mailed a letter addressed to a U.S. District Court judge, threatening to shoot and kill the judge, who had dismissed several civil suits filed by Johnson. The letter ended, “Looking forward to watching you die,” and was signed by Johnson with his inmate number and address. On March 5, 2009, Johnson told investigators that he would probably follow through with his threats if given the opportunity because he was very upset with the judge for dismissing his civil cases.
United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended Assistant United States Attorney Judson T. Mihok, who prosecuted the case.
