Springfield Man Sentenced to 10 Years on Drug Charges

June 1, 2010 - BOSTON, MA—A Springfield man was sentenced in federal court today for possessing and distributing over 50 grams of crack cocaine to a cooperating witness.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz; Warren T. Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation—Boston Field Division; Hampden County District Attorney William M. Bennett; Springfield Police Commissioner William J. Fitchet; Massachusetts State Police Colonel Marian McGovern; and Hampden County Sheriff Michael Ashe, announced that JAYSON TAVERNIER, 27, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to 10 years' imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised release. On June 25, 2009, TAVERNIER pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute and distribution of cocaine base.

The case was investigated by the FBI's Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force, a Safe Street/HIDTA Initiative. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex J. Grant of Ortiz's Springfield Branch Unit.
