San Luis, Ariz. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Luis, Ariz., port of entry arrested two juveniles and an adult for attempting to smuggle contraband taped to their bodies.
On Wednesday, CBP officers arrested three people for attempting to smuggle contraband. The first of these attempts was at approximately 7:30 p.m. by an 18-year-old. During the primary inspection the officers noticed a bulge beneath his clothing when the man attempted to flee back to Mexico. The CBP officers reacted quickly and apprehended the man. It was then discovered the man had 1.21 pounds of marijuana taped between his legs.
The other two incidents occurred just minutes later when a 15-year-old and 17-year-old also attempted to smuggle just over one pound of marijuana taped between their legs. All three incidents occurred in less than a 30 minute time frame.
All three were turned over to the San Luis, Ariz., Police Department along with the marijuana for further processing and investigation.
On the same day at approximately 7:00 p.m., a 24-year-old U.S. citizen arrived at the San Luis port of entry driving a Mazda MX-6. The CBP officers conducting enforcement operations pulled the vehicle aside to inspect it after anomalies were seen while using the mobile x-ray truck. The officers discovered 24 packages of marijuana concealed in the quarter panels with a total weight of 27 pounds.
On Tuesday, CBP officers along with Border Patrol agents were conducting enforcement operations when they discovered more than 61 pounds of marijuana concealed in the doors of a Lincoln Town Car. The driver was arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
On both days, another four people were arrested for attempting to come into the country with entry documents that did not belong to them. In all four cases the CBP officers noticed they were not the true owners of the documents presented.
