May 10, 2010 - GREGORY MEFFERT, age 44, a resident of New Orleans; LINDA MEFFERT, age 43, a resident of New Orleans and the wife of defendant GREGORY MEFFERT; and MARK ST. PIERRE, age 47, a resident of Belle Chasse and local business owner, were charged in a 63-count superseding indictment with conspiracy, wire fraud, bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds, money laundering, false statements, and filing false tax returns, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
Today’s superseding indictment is identical to the original indictment in all counts, charges, and penalties pertaining to the defendants. However, the superseding indictment puts defendants GREGORY MEFFERT and LINDA MEFFERT on notice that, upon conviction, the United States will seek forfeiture of the property located at 24 Park Island Drive, New Orleans, Louisiana because it was improved and partially paid for with proceeds of the criminal activities described in the indictment. The superseding indictment also contains ministerial changes.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew M. Coman, Richard R. Pickens, and Jon M. Maestri.
