May 17, 2010 - TRENTON, NJ—A Freehold, New Jersey man was sentenced today to 162 months in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine in Freehold Township, United States Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Marc Gill, 33, pleaded guilty on August 14, 2009, to Count Three of a three-count Indictment charging him with possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine. At his plea hearing, Gill admitted to distributing crack on three occasions in August and September 2008. Gill entered his guilty plea before Chief United States District Judge Garrett E. Brown, Jr., who also imposed today’s sentence in Trenton federal court.
In addition to the prison term, Chief Judge Brown sentenced Gill to serve five years of supervised release.
In determining the actual sentence, Chief Judge Brown consulted the advisory United States Sentencing Guidelines, which provide appropriate sentencing ranges that take into account the severity and characteristics of the offense, the defendant’s criminal history, if any, and other factors. Parole has been abolished in the federal system. Defendants who are given custodial terms must serve nearly all that time.
Fishman credited special agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Red Bank Resident Agency, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Ward, with the investigation leading to Gill’s conviction.
The government is represented by Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Davenport of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Trenton.
