May 24, 2010 - The Cleveland Division of Police, Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department, and the Cleveland Office of the FBI will set up a command post in the plaza parking lot located at W 110th and Lorain Avenue on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. to commemorate National Missing Children’s Day.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children estimate that every year 800,000 children are reported missing, more than 2000 children each day. Of that number, 200,000 are abducted by family members, and 58,000 are abducted by non-family members. The primary motive for non-family abductions is sexual. Each year 115 children are the victims of the most serious abductions, taken by non-family members and either murdered, held for ransom, or taken with the intent to keep the child.
The command post will provide information to the public on how to keep our children safe along with fingerprint kits for families and information on missing children from the Cleveland area.
The Cleveland Division of Police, Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI continue to seek information on the disappearances of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, Ashley Summers, and Christina Adkins, all missing from the west side of Cleveland.
Any questions regarding this news release can be directed to SA Scott T. Wilson at the Cleveland Office of the FBI, 216-522-1400.
