Philadelphia Man Sentenced for Armed Jewelry Store Robbery


April 14, 2010 - PHILADELPHIA—Raynard Powell, 20, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty today to committing the June 4, 2009 gunpoint robbery at Govberg Jewelers, announced United States Attorney Michael L. Levy. During the course of the robbery, over $216,000 in jewelry was taken. Powell’s co-defendant, Nathaniel Williams, is scheduled for trial on June 14, 2010.

Powell will be sentenced on July 27, 2010. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in prison with a maximum possible sentence of life, and a possible fine of up to $750,000.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Philadelphia Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony J. Wzorek.
