March 4, 2010 - A Macomb County businessman was sentenced today for his role in a scheme to defraud Tower Automotive out of more than $97,000.00, United States Attorney Barbara L. McQuade announced today.
The defendant, David Lee Robinson, age 70, of Warren, Michigan, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Victoria Roberts to a term of seven months' imprisonment to be followed by a term of two years of supervised release. Judge Roberts also ordered that Robinson pay restitution of $97,274.00 to the victim of his fraudulent activities.
United States Attorney McQuade was joined in the announcement by Andrew G. Arena, Special Agent in Charge of the Detroit, Michigan Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The felony conviction arose from Robinson’s involvement in a scheme to use false invoices and other documents to defraud Tower Automotive Group formerly based in Novi, Michigan. The false documents were submitted in the name of Robinson’s company Spectrum Machining, Inc. of Roseville, Michigan.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Bruce Judge.
