Rio Grande Valley Agents Seize Nearly Half a Million Pounds of Marijuana Since October

March 15, 2010 - Edinburg, Texas — The U.S. Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector continued to experience an overall increase in narcotics seizures during the 2010 fiscal year. As of Sunday, more than 487,000 pounds of marijuana have been seized during fiscal year 2010, compared to the more than 392,000 pounds seized during the same reporting period in fiscal year 2009.

The Border Patrol attributes the increase in seizures to the continued utilization of the combination of personnel, technology and tactical infrastructure. “The increase in narcotics seizures is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our men and women on the front lines” said Rio Grande Valley Chief Patrol Agent Ron Vitiello.

To report suspicious activity, contact the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector’s toll-free telephone number at 1-800-863-9382.
