Minneapolis Man Sentenced for Robbing a Maplewood Bank, Admitted Robbing Two Additional Banks

March 25, 2010 - MINNEAPOLIS— B. Todd Jones, United States Attorney for the District of Minnesota, announced that a 34-year-old Minneapolis man was sentenced yesterday in federal court for robbing a Maplewood bank on February 18, 2009. On March 24, 2010, in St. Paul, U.S. District Court Judge Donovan Frank sentenced Jared Amon Rohling to 60 months in prison on one count of bank robbery. Rohling was indicted on March 18, 2009, and pled guilty on May 19, 2009.

In his plea agreement, Rohling admitted taking $3,001 from a Maplewood TCF Bank on February 18, 2009. In addition, he agreed to pay $450 in restitution to a St. Louis Park TCF Bank and $3,647 in restitution to a Minneapolis TCF Bank. According to an affidavit filed in the case, the Maplewood bank was robbed at 3:30 p.m. The robber, later identified as Rohling, handed a teller a note that was written on an anniversary card that said, “Give me all the money.” After reading the note, the teller asked Rohling if it was a joke. Rohling replied, “No, it’s not a joke.” The teller complied and gave Rohling the cash. Rohling said, “Thank you,” and walked out of the bank. Police located Rohling in a stolen minivan parked just north of Minnesota Street and he surrendered to police without incident. Police recovered $2,801 in Rohling’s front pocket of his pants and $200 from behind the minivan’s front passenger seat.

This case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Maplewood Police Department and the St. Louis Park Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tricia A. Tingle.
