March 23, 2010 - PROVIDENCE, RI—Craig Forest, 29, of Attleboro, Massachusetts, pled guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court, Providence, to robbing a Pawtucket credit union on July 31, 2009, it was announced by United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha. The defendant entered a change of plea before U.S. District Court Judge William E. Smith.
Craig Forest was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 23, 2009, of robbing the Broadway branch of the Pawtucket Credit Union of $1,300. The defendant entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment on January 4, 2010, before Magistrate Judge David L. Martin, and was ordered detained.
Based on information from surveillance photographs and witness statements, police canvassed the area and located clothing matching the defendant in the open trunk of a vehicle parked nearby.
Four days after the robbery, while on patrol, a Pawtucket police detective recognized the defendant, who was sitting at a bus stop, from bank surveillance photographs. He was taken into custody and charged by Pawtucket Police.
Forest is scheduled to be sentenced in U.S. District Court on July 30, 2010.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Zechariah Chafee. The matter was investigated by Pawtucket Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
