March 5, 2010 - KANSAS CITY, MO—Matthew T. Jones, 31, and Ryan R. Hanzlick 32, were taken into custody earlier today without incident. The investigation and subsequent arrests were part of a joint investigation with the Thomas County, Kansas and the Hayes County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Departments, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI in Kansas and Nebraska.
Jones and Hanzlick were indicted in the District of Kansas on March 3, 2010. Both men are charged with 12 counts for the transport and transfer in interstate commerce of goods, wares, and merchandise, which had a value of $5,000.00, or more, knowing same to have been stolen, converted, and taken by fraud. According to the indictments, the thefts took place between November, 2005 and April 2008 and involved the thefts of large farm equipment from the states of Wyoming, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Colorado.
Both men were arrested and taken into custody today—Hanzlick in Hayes Center, Nebraska at approximately 9:00 a.m,. and Jones at approximately 12:20 p.m. in Colby, Kansas.
If convicted, both men face a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison on each count.
In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictment merely contains allegations of criminal conduct.
