Robbery of Tennessee State Bank Branch in Powell


January 28, 2010 - The Knoxville Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Sheriff Jimmy “J.J.” Jones of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect who robbed a Powell bank today. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.

At approximately 12:38 p.m., the suspect entered the Tennessee State Bank located at 7500 Old Clinton Pike in Powell, displayed a weapon, and verbally demanded money. Witnesses described the weapon as a large-framed, semi-automatic pistol, black in color. Witnesses described the suspect as a white male, between 5’8” and 6’ tall, weighing approximately 150 to 200 pounds. The suspect was wearing denim pants, a tan, button-down trenchcoat, a gray or brown Ushanka hat with the ear flaps folded down, his face was covered with camouflage material, and he was wearing dark reflective sunglasses. The suspect was also carrying a black messenger-type bag. After obtaining an undetermined amount of money, the suspect fled the bank on foot headed west on Old Clinton Pike.

A reward is being offered for any information which leads to the arrest of this individual. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 865-544-0751 or the KCSO at 865-215-2243. This matter is being investigated jointly by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force (which consists of personnel from the FBI, KPD, and KCSO) and the KCSO Major Crimes Unit.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
