January 28, 2010 - JONTIA WILLIAMS, age 26, a resident of Harvey, Louisiana, pled guilty in federal court today before U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance to a charge of bank theft, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
According to factual basis, WILLIAMS admitted that between 2006 and 2008, while she was employed as a bank teller by Capital One Bank, she was in charge of the Coin Operated Machine (COMAC). On several occasions, WILLIAMS stole money from her teller drawer and created fictitious Cash Out Tickets representing that funds had been deposited into the COMAC. WILLIAMS stole approximately $21,800.
WILLIAMS faces a possible maximum sentence of ten (10) years of confinement, a $250,000 fine, and three (3) years supervised release. The sentencing is for April 7, 2010.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Juan M. Masini.
