Burlington, VT – The U.S. Marshals Service, Vermont Violent
Offender Task Force (VVOTF) assisted with the arrest of a fugitive who was
wanted for an Assault and Robbery with Injury, where a firearm was stolen.
Daniel Muzzy, 31, formerly of Vermont was wanted in Vermont
by the Essex Police Department and was also a person of interest in numerous
burglaries where firearms were stolen. Muzzy fled the state before he could be
arrested on these charges. It is believed that Muzzy traveled to Tennessee,
Kentucky and Utah where he is a person of interest in additional crimes.
The VVOTF developed information that Muzzy was in Utah and
may have been involved in the theft of several additional firearms. Working
with the U.S. Marshals in Utah, the Salt Lake City Police Department and other
agencies, a press release was generated looking for the public’s assistance in
locating Muzzy.
On July 11, 2015, information gathered from the public, lead
law enforcement to a state park in Morgan County, Utah. Muzzy was armed with
two firearms when encountered by law enforcement and resisted arrest. Officers
found numerous firearms and drug paraphernalia within Muzzy’s possession.
Muzzy is currently detained in Utah and will answer to his
crimes their before facing extradition back to Vermont.
This arrest was a result of a culmination of investigative
efforts by the U.S. Marshals VVOTF, The U.S. Marshals Service Eastern District
of Kentucky, The U.S. Marshals Service Western District of Kentucky, the U.S.
Marshals Service District of Utah and the Salt Lake City Police Department.
