Norfolk, VA – The United States Marshal for the Eastern
District of Virginia, Robert W. Mathieson, announces the capture of Monte
Robinson. Robinson was wanted out of the city of Suffolk for homicide and other
gun charges related to the murder.
The Suffolk Police Department and USMS Fugitive Task Force
in Norfolk have been working together since the homicide to locate Robinson in
his flight from prosecution. It is believed that Robinson fled the area after
the murder.
The Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF), in
Atlanta, received information about possible whereabouts of Robinson. Deputies
in Norfolk, in coordination with Suffolk Police, were able to provide key
details regarding the fugitive and possible family members. This morning at
approximately 10:45am, Robinson’s flight from justice ended as he was
identified by SERFTF surveillance teams exiting a residence off of Torch Hill
Rd, in Columbus, GA. Robinson was immediately placed under arrest by members of
USMS SERFTF and the Columbus Police Department.
The U.S. Marshals led task force consists of law enforcement
officers from the U.S. Marshals, Chesapeake Sheriff’s Department, Newport News
Police Department, Portsmouth Police Department and Norfolk Police Department.
The main objective of the task force is to seek out and arrest violent
offenders with outstanding federal and state warrants.
The U.S. Marshals Service, America’s oldest Federal Law
Enforcement Agency, arrested more than 36,000 federal fugitives, 86,700 state
and local fugitives, and 11,800 sex offenders in fiscal year 2013. Our
investigative network and capabilities allow for the unique ability to track
and apprehend any fugitive who attempts to evade police capture, anywhere in
the country.
