Pittsburgh Police and U.S. Marshals Arrest Homicide Suspect



Pittsburgh, PA – United States Marshal Steve Frank announces the arrest of Pittsburgh homicide suspect Theodore Smedley earlier this morning. Detectives with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police teamed up with the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force (WPAFTF) leading to this morning’s arrest of Smedley at a residence in Wilkinsburg, PA. Smedley, age 18, was charged by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police on April 2, 2014 with Criminal Homicide, Conspiracy-Criminal Homicide and Carrying a Firearm without a License. These charges arose out of an incident which occurred during the evening of March 24, 2014 in the 1100 block of Goettman Street in Pittsburgh’s Troy Hill neighborhood. Smedley is alleged to have shot 18 year old Rasheed Strader multiple times in the chest and neck. Strader was found lying on the ground between two parked cars on Goettman Street at approximately 9:30 pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics after they attempted to revive him.

Smedley was arrested without incident at an address in the 200 block of Chalfant Street in Wilkinsburg. Following his arrest, Smedley was turned over to the custody of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Homicide Detectives.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force is comprised of officers from the Pennsylvania State
Police, Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Allegheny County
Sheriffs, and Westmoreland County. These agencies, along with the United States Attorney’s Office,
are participating members of the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force (WPAFTF).
