CBP Officers in Detroit Arrest Wanted Cuban Citizen

Man wanted for attempted premeditated murder

Detroit — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations arrested a male Cuban citizen wanted out of Miami-Dade County, Fla. at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.

On July 15, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a commercial bus destined for Detroit arrived at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. During primary inspection of the passengers, CBP officers discovered Pablo Antonio Perez-Castellanos, a citizen of Cuba with U.S. legal permanent resident status. The subject advised officers that he was returning to the United States after a three-month stay in Cuba.

Records checks revealed that an active felony no bond warrant existed for Perez-Castellanos. The warrant, issued on March 19 by the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office, charges Perez-Castellanos with the following:
  • Kidnapping
  • Burglary with Assault/Battery
  • Attempted Premeditated Murder
  • Child Abuse/No Great Bodily Harm (2) counts
CBP officers confirmed the validity of the warrant and extradition to Florida. Perez-Castellanos was arrested and turned over to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department pending extradition proceedings.

“This arrest is another great example of how CBP continues to ensure the security of our nation at our ports of entry,” said Roderick Blanchard, Port Director for Detroit. “It’s always a great feeling when you are able to protect the people of Detroit and the United States from dangerous individuals like Perez-Castellanos.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our Nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
