Border Patrol Seizes 226 Pounds of Marijuana

Yuma, Ariz. — U.S. Border Patrol agents from Yuma Sector’s Wellton Station seized approximately 226 pounds of marijuana Friday worth $113,000.

Agents patrolling 15 miles southwest of Gila Bend discovered footprints created by a group of individuals traveling on foot through the desert. As agents tracked the group, they located six abandoned burlap backpacks of marijuana. The contraband was seized for destruction per Yuma Sector guidelines.

Yuma Sector effectively combats smuggling organizations attempting to transport contraband through southwestern Arizona. As a result, the probabilities of arrest and associated penalties cause smugglers to often abandon their drug loads rather than risk apprehension and prosecution.
