Dallas Man Sentenced to 57 Months in Prison for Transporting Women Across State Lines to Engage in Prostitution

LAS CRUCES—This morning a federal judge in Las Cruces, New Mexico sentenced Joshua Harris, 26, of Dallas, Texas, to 57 months of imprisonment for violating a federal statute that prohibits the transportation of individuals across state lines for the purpose of engaging in prostitution or sexual activity. Harris will be on supervised release for three years after he completes his prison sentence. He also will be required to register as a sex offender.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said that Harris pled guilty to a two-count information on October 6, 2011. During his plea hearing, Harris admitted that on July 4, 2011, he transported two women, one of whom was a minor, from Texas to Doña Ana County, New Mexico, with the intent that the women engage in prostitution. Harris has been in federal custody since his arrest on July 4, 2011.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Border Patrol and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ravi Sinha.
