Wanted
for 2010 fatal shooting in Puerto Rico
Harrisburg, PA – United States Marshal
Martin J. Pane announced today that the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) arrested
Carlos Baez-Quinonez in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Baez-Quinonez, a 24-year old man, was
being sought by the Puerto Rico Department of Public Safety on charges of
criminal homicide and related firearms offenses. It is alleged that, on April
19, 2010, Baez-Quinonez and two other suspects shot and killed Angel
Fuentes-Rodriguez inside an apartment in Luquillo, Puerto Rico. The other two
suspects are already in custody in Puerto Rico.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Marshals
Service Fugitive Task Force in Puerto Rico was asked to assist in locating
Baez-Quinonez. Information was developed that Baez-Quinonez may be hiding out
in Pennsylvania.
During the early morning hours of May
24, U.S. Marshals and members of the USMS Middle District of Pennsylvania
Fugitive Task Force located Baez-Quinonez at a home in the 100 block of Queen
Street in Chambersburg. The fugitive was taken into custody without incident.
Baez-Quinonez was turned over to the Chambersburg Police Department for
processing. He will be charged as a fugitive from justice, pending extradition
to Puerto Rico.
United States Marshal Martin J. Pane
stated, “Murder suspects and those charged with violent crimes are of the
highest priority in locating and arresting. Now that this last remaining
suspect has been captured, it is my hope that the victim’s family may be more
at peace. Our communities become safer by ridding the streets of these type
violent fugitives.”
U.S. Marshals were assisted by several
agencies that comprise its M/PA Fugitive Task Force. This included officers
from the Chambersburg Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
The concept of all USMS-led fugitive
task forces is to seek out and arrest the nation’s most dangerous offenders.
