Progreso, Texas – U.S. Customs and
Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Progreso Port of Entry on Thursday
apprehended a man wanted for homicide in Mission, Texas.
On May 24, 2012, CBP officers working
pedestrian primary at the Progreso International Bridge encountered a male
pedestrian identified as Miguel A. Garcia, a 37-year-old Mexican citizen and
resident of Mission, Texas. A CBP officer escorted Garcia to secondary for
verification of a possible outstanding arrest warrant for homicide. At secondary,
a CBP officer's checks of a national database identified Miguel A. Garcia as
the subject of outstanding arrest warrants for homicide from the Hidalgo County
Sheriff’s Office. CBP officers arrested Garcia and subsequently turned him over
to the custody of the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. Miguel A. Garcia is at
the Hidalgo County Jail and will face his pending homicide charges in the
murder of his wife.
“This wanted fugitive has been
apprehended by CBP as he attempted to re-enter the country. Progreso CBP
officers have helped keep our community safe by stopping this wanted fugitive
facing outstanding homicide charges. I congratulate our officers for their
outstanding vigilance on the border," said Carlos Rodriguez, CBP Port
Director, Progreso, Texas Port of Entry.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is
the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged
with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and
between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and
terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
