Navajo Man Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison for Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor


PHOENIX—On March 26, 2011, Timothy Yazzie, 38, of Dilkon, Arizona, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Neil V. Wake to 35 years’ imprisonment. Yazzie was found guilty by a federal jury on December 1, 2011 of three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor.

The evidence at trial showed that the defendant used force and threats to coerce a 13-year-old victim to repeatedly engage in sexual intercourse with him.

The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Navajo Nation Criminal Investigators’ Office. The prosecution is being handled by Cassie Bray Woo and Sharon Sexton, Assistant U.S. Attorneys, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
