Calexico, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico East port of entry yesterday arrested a 23-year-old male U.S. citizen after they discovered $225,000 worth of cocaine hidden in the vehicle he was driving.
CBP officers used x-ray equipment and discovered ten wrapped packages of cocaine, weighing 25 pounds, concealed within the dashboard of the vehicle.
The seizure occurred at about 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, when a CBP officer conducting inspections of vehicles and travelers referred the driver and the green 2009 Ford Ranger pick-up truck for further examination.
During the intensive inspection, CBP officers used x-ray equipment and discovered ten wrapped packages of cocaine, weighing 25 pounds, concealed within the dashboard of the vehicle.
CBP officers turned over custody of the driver, a resident of Mexicali, Baja California, to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents who then transported him to the Imperial County Jail where he awaits arraignment.
CBP seized the narcotics and vehicle.
