U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that John Denoyer, age 29, of Mission, appeared before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange on June 21, 2011, and pled guilty to an information that charged him with Assaulting a Federal Officer. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 8 years’ imprisonment.
In September 2009, the Defendant and his wife were involved in a domestic violence incident at their home in Todd County. Law enforcement was called and arrived on the scene. Officer Anthony Long Soldier found the Defendant in a back bedroom and attempted to arrest the Defendant. The Defendant did not comply with Officer Long Soldier’s commands. A struggle ensued, causing physical contact between Officer Long Soldier and the Defendant. During the struggle, Officer Long Soldier and the Defendant fell into the bedroom window, causing the glass to break.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges.
