Allen Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Abuse

June 8, 2010 - U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Peter Lloyd Bull Bear, age 22, of Allen, South Dakota, appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on June 4, 2010, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged him with sexual abuse. The maximum penalty upon conviction is any term of years up to life, a $250,000 fine, or both. Bull Bear knowingly engaged in a sexual act with a woman who was incapable of declining his advances or communicate her unwillingness to engage in the sexual act. While the victim was intoxicated and asleep in her bed, Bull Bear sexually assaulted her. After awakening, the victim chased off Bull Bear and immediately reported the sexual assault to law enforcement. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for August 23, 2010. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
